Col Daniel Bridge wiped out

The well-known Col Daniel Bridge located in Tumbarumba on the Hume & Hovell Track, 5.5km from Henry Angel Campground towards Mannus Lake has been completely destroyed by flood water.

Col Daniel Bridge crosses the Tumbarumba Creek, which rose approximately 2-metres on the 25th November when the Tumbarumba region experienced significant rainfall and subsequent flooding. Due to this event the suspension bridge was overwhelmed by the volume of water and has been completely wiped out.

This creek is known to be fast-flowing and can pose a danger to those attempting to cross, it is therefore necessary to close the Hume & Hovell Track at this point until repair works are undertaken.

The very popular “out-and-back” option is still available to visitors to walk from Henry Angel Campground to the Col Daniel Bridge site, but there will be closures in place from this point onwards, Track managers strongly advise against attempting to cross during this time.

Assessments have been undertaken and bridge retrieval operations will be underway to make the area safe and limit the impacts on the waterway.
