FCNSW Hazard Reduction Burn - Buccleuch State Forest (Update)

Update 1 April 2025 - Forestry Corporation have advised that the hazard reduction burn has been completed and the detour is no longer in place. Trees surrounding the Hume & Hovell Track have been assessed as safe and walkers are able to return to this area. If you have any concerns please get in touch with Forestry or our Track Managers.

Forestry Corporation of NSW will be conducting a hazard reduction burn in Buccleuch State Forest in the vicinity of Pompey Pillar.

The affected section of the track is between Log Bridge Creek Campsite and Micalong Creek Campsite. The burn will be undertaken when conditions are ideal anytime from late March through to the end of April.

A detour will be in place and the affected area will be signposted when operations are active. The detour (highlighted in yellow on the map below) follows Forestry roads around the perimeter of the burn and walkers are advised to follow instructions from Forestry Corporation.

The track will reopen after Forestry Corporation and the Hume & Hovell Track team have assessed that the area is safe for walkers to return.

Track Managers advise walkers to use caution when passing through this section. Please ensure that you are prepared with sufficient supplies and water in the event that delays are experienced. Be mindful when passing through this section as there may be increased traffic on nearby forestry roads as the operations are undertaken.

Please note: the Hume & Hovell Track passes through numerous land tenures which means access and management may be impacted by the governing body. This includes chemical usage, harvesting operations, road works and maintenance.
