Henry Angel to Mannus Lake reopens

The Dunns Road bushfire that caused disaster and devastation in 2019/2020 across the state also had a significant impact on the Hume & Hovell Track. With over 120km of track burnt and fire damage to scores of bridges, it has been a long road to recovery.

Track Managers are excited to share the great progress that has been made with the rebuild work which has led to a very popular section now being reopened to the public. The highly-used section from Henry Angel Campground all the way through to Mannus Lake is now open.

Over the past 18 months we have engaged a specialised arborist to identify all of the dangerous trees that were impacted by the fire. This was followed by specialist tree-felling crews who are certified in clearing away the identified trees and hazardous vegetation.

Our work crews have recently re-established the track corridor, cutting back overgrowth and ensuring a clear path. They have also replaced the marker-posts that had perished in the fire.

Much of this work has been heavily impacted by the extreme weather Tumbarumba is experiencing with multiple flood events through the Henry Angel Campground and surrounds over the past 12 months causing setbacks and additional maintenance to be undertaken.

Maintenance crews have also continued the infrastructure installation work with more bridges and boardwalks being replaced and upgraded in this section (see bridge program update news item).

Henry Angel Campground to Mannus Lake is a very attractive walk with spectacular views from Mt Garland, now surrounded by regrowth and epicormic regeneration on the trees and shrubs. This beautiful walk will connect you back with nature while you find appreciation in the resilience of the bushland.

Please note, the track section from Blowering Dam, through to Henry Angel Campground remains closed. In addition, there is ongoing flooding around Henry Angel Campground which may impact walking ability when water levels are high.
