Henry Angel Trackhead and Burra Creek Conditions

The ongoing heavy rainfall around the region and recent flooding events have caused some undesirable conditions at the Henry Angel Trackhead and the walking track through to Mannus Lake.

The high level of water around the campground has left the ground incredibly sodden, muddy and soft underfoot. This has also meant it has been impossible to perform the usual maintenance work which has resulted in overgrowth of grassed areas.

In addition, the lower sections of the Henry Angel campground has trapped water remaining that is causing swampy and muddy surfaces. This means no camping or driving on those areas.

Burra Creek has also flooded multiple times and the Hume and Hovell Track through this section to Mannus Lake has parts of the track underwater and very muddy. The track is passable, but you will need to be prepared to get wet feed and ensure you have packed spare dry footwear.

The images below are from the September flooding, but this is reflective of the conditions that are being experienced frequently at the moment due to heavy rainfall and a high water table.

Camping is available on the uphill side of the road and the eastern side of the creek and Track managers are hopeful that the ground will dry out with some warmer weather, there will also be maintenance activities undertaken on the grounds and surrounding track as soon as practically possible.

This section is known to be incredibly popular to our visitors and walkers and it is difficult to see the condition that is currently being faced, but we appreciate the understanding and patience of our hikers when faced with these weather events. We encourage our visitors to check the weather forecasts and plan for rainfall or sudden weather changes, being of mindful of the current flooding risk in this area.
