January & February Update
A lot has happened over the January & February period with much progress being made on our Track. In the fire-damaged sections, the assessments are continuing and thankfully this phase is nearing its end with planning underway on track clearing, rebuilding, and maintenance requirements. As you can imagine the next phase is a mammoth undertaking and will require significant investment in materials and labour. In some parts the track is barely recognisable from the land slides and and erosion that has occurred since the bushfire went through in January 2020.
The below images show the impact of the fire on Browns Creek Campsite discovered this month during dangerous tree assessments. This scene is mirrored across the track at a number of other campsites.
In the open sections of the track there are more bridge replacements underway particularly in the Burra Creek area that had been damaged by flooding. Maintenance work continues with the regular clearing, whipper snipping, slashing grass, bracken and blackberry control. It should be noted that we are seeing a lot of overgrowth due to the nature of the season and crews are working hard to maintain track standards.
