Kosciuszko National Park Temporary Closure from April 2024 to October 2024

National Parks and Wildlife Service have advised that Kosciuszko National Park will be closed to the public from the 4th April 2024 - 4th October 2024 for a feral animal control program.

For the safety of visitors and staff, some sections of the park will be closed temporarily while aerial shooting is conducted. All tracks, trails, campgrounds, huts, picnic areas and accommodation nodes within the closure areas are closed to the public during the specified period.

For more detail please see the National Park Website: Implementing the 2021 Kosciuszko National Park Wild Horse Heritage Management Plan | NSW Environment and Heritage

This will impact the Hume and Hovell Track from the powerline near Boundary Road, to the park entrance at Thomas Boyd Trackhead. The Hume & Hovell Team have established two Pickup/Detour options:

1. Argalong Road at Chinamans Creek Boardwalk - distance back to the track (Buckleys Bridge) on Goobarragandra Rd is 33.5km

2. Boundary Road - distance back to track (Buckleys Bridge) is 35km

It is a further 5km from Buckleys Bridge back to Thomas Boyd Trackhead. For a possible transport option, please contact Our Snowy Tours on 0421 636 530.

The closure will be occurring in the pink highlighted area as shown on the map below (supplied by NPWS). The Hume & Hovell Track is the top right corner of the pink area.

For further information or enquiries specific to this work please contact the wild horse team with any inquiries at npws.wildhorses@environment.nsw.gov.au

Please note: the Hume & Hovell Track passes through numerous land tenures which means access and management may be impacted by the governing body. This includes chemical usage, harvesting operations, road works and other maintenance.
